Do you ever get ready to pack for a hunt but don’t even know where to start?
I just got back from my archery elk hunt in Utah. Preparing for these hunts is always something I struggle with because I never know what I am going to need?! I didn’t grow up western hunting so getting packed up is always stressful for me, but every time I go I find new tips & gear that will go with me on my next hunt!
I made this elk hunt packing list that I use when gearing up to head west and wanted to share it with you guys. If you are going with an outfitter they may already have some of these items you can borrow so it’s always good to double check with who you are hunting with. I marked items with a * if it’s something you may be able to borrow or don’t necessarily NEED.
One big takeaway from my last hunt that I feel is important but also very cliche — Practice with your gear the way you would use it in the woods. I know that sounds pretty obvious but that can be easily forgotten sometimes. When I was preparing for this hunt I was in Texas where it was 100 degrees all summer. I wasn’t thinking about layering up in my gear for 30 degree weather AND having to shoot a bow. Not to mention having to shoot with a bino harness and backpack on. You never know what scenario you will be in so practicing for all conditions is something to keep in mind.
