Bristlecone is based in Wells, Nevada, but its licensed Master Guide and Subguides specialize in offering guided hunting and other types of trips to remote areas in Nevada’s White Pine, Lincoln, and Elko Counties.
Bristlecone guides can take you to remote areas of Nevada that people rarely see. They specialize in hunting BLM-administered lands in the Ely and Elko Hunting Districts, covering Nevada’s White Pine, Lincoln, and Elko Counties. Details on some of Bristlecone’s favorite hunting areas follow.
Grafton Wilderness is in southern White Pine County (Ely Unit 222), where hunting pressure is low, because no motorized vehicles are allowed. Horses are used for access to tented spike camps located in specific areas of the wilderness. This hunt requires physical effort to be successful, and hiking is a must. Winter-weight sleeping bags are recommended, as high-country temperatures can dip to the low teens Fahrenheit at night during the hunting season.
To hunt this area, you can expect to stay in a field/base camp or tented spike camp, depending on where elk are located. Horses may be used for access, if desired, but hiking will be required, as well
This hunting area has a high success rate, particularly for elk. Horses may be used for access, if desired, but hiking will be required, as well. Bristlecone’s Master Guide, Dwight Lindquist, drew and elk tag for this area in 2005 and took home a 7 x 7 bull that scored 376 Boone and Crockett. This was certainly one of the better bulls harvested in this unit.
This area has netted our guides trophy deer and has evidenced high elk numbers in recent years. This BLM land offers more access opportunities than hunting areas in White Pine County. Many areas of these units may be hunted using 4WD vehicles, so horse use is not necessary, but it is certainly an option.
Licensed Master Guide, Dwight Lindquist (NDOW Permit #25828), is no stranger to Nevada’s remote hunting areas, having spent 18 years as a government trapper based in Ely. Bristlecone’s subguides are also from the Ely, Elko, and Wells areas with years of Nevada backcountry hunting experience.
Dwight is licensed statewide as a Master Guide for hunters of deer, elk, antelope, desert sheep, California sheep, Rocky Mountain sheep, mountain goats, mountain lions, and furbearing animals.
Our one-guide-per-hunter hunts include everything but your personal gear and sleeping bag.
Transportation, meals, lodging, gentle riding and pack horses or mules, base camp, and tented spike camps are all part of the package. (Non-horseback trips are also available.)
Each customer’s needs are different, so rates will vary according to the length and complexity of your adventure. Contact Bristlecone to discuss what you have in mind, so pricing may be quoted on a personal basis.
Deposit of 50% of hunt price is required at time of booking. There will be a $200 discount if hunt is booked six weeks prior to hunt start date. Deposit is fully refundable in cases of hunter or immediate family medical emergency only. Medical documentation is required.
Elk hunt rate: $4,700 for six full days of hunting
