Wild Kakwa Outfitters is a family owned business operated by Rick and Ricky Houweling. Alberta has been their home for over 30 years of hunting, fishing and exploring the backcountry. The aerial survey done by Alberta Natural Resources revealed that our hunting area is among the best in Alberta Canada for both archery and rifle rut hunts. Especially considering we are one of the few areas you can hunt Bull Elk at the peak of the Rut with a Rifle. We received awards 5 different years for harvesting the top moose in Alberta. Our elk and whitetail deer are no exception; with the majority of bull elks scoring between 260 and 360 and whitetail bucks scoring 150 to 190+.

For the past 20 years in our hunting zone, we have been consistently harvesting some of the largest Canada Moose killed in Alberta.
Wild Kakwa Outfitters provides archery trophy bull moose hunts and rifle moose hunts in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta Canada. Our hunting area has resident rifle moose hunters on a limited draw which creates a high population trophy of bulls, and an outstanding hunt for our clients. Our hunters have been harvesting moose in the 40-60 inch wide range with live weights of 1000 -1400 lbs.

Archery moose hunts take place during the early rut when rifle season is closed. Hunters will be hunting on foot and from stands over mineral springs and high traffic moose rutting areas. The bulls are very territorial and will come in close when they are challenged. Your guide will call using bull grunts and cow moose mating calls to bring the bull into 20 – 50 yards. Our goal is to call Pope and Young bulls into 40 yards or less for an exciting hunt.
Our rifle rut hunts are very exciting because the bulls are very aggressive and respond well to cow calls. We will be duplicating the cow moose mating call in areas with high densities of moose and high bull to cow ratios. We have consistently out performed other outfitters.

Looking for a trophy bull elk? Hunt Alberta Canada where the elk are plentiful! You will be hunting during the rut in our hunting area along the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
The combination of low hunting pressure and high populations produces trophy bulls that are very vocal and will come in close. When we locate a bugling bull, we move in close and challenge the bull.
Our rifle rut hunts are very exciting because the bulls are very aggressive and respond well to calls. A rifle hunter can usually expect a 15 to 40 yard shot at a rutting bull.
It is not uncommon to see black bear during your elk hunt, therefore a black bear tag can be added to your hunt.
Wild Kakwa outfitters hunt elk in two of the best zones in Alberta, Canada. We are bugling in and interacting with aggressive territorial Bulls at the peak of the rut. Unlike most states, we rifle hunt them during the calling season. Calling in a screaming bull is an unforgettable experience.
One of the zones is a 3 point minimum, where we consistently kill mature 5 and 6 point bulls. Here the elk are concentrated on the rivers and we utilize jet boats and ATV’s to cover the best elk hunting territory. Hunting from a Jet Boat adds a truly exciting and unforgettable adventure to this rut hunt. This is an excellent hunt for clients who want to camp right in the best elk areas, with out long commutes to where the elk live.
Our second zone has a 6 point minimum. Again we hunt the river banks, but utilize atvs and hiking to access the best areas. Hunting a 6 point minimum zone has its benefits, and one is how many bulls get to grow old and become competitive breeders.
Bow hunting elk can be both exciting and devastating, all in the same hour! Our experienced guides work hard through persistence and scouting to help you connect on that up close experience with a screaming bull. On poor weather, warm, windy days the hunting can be much tougher. On these days we have tree stands set up in key locations to keep your chances high.
Wild Kakwa Outfitters provides trophy whitetail deer hunts in the Peace River area of Alberta Canada where the big bucks live.
Northwest Alberta is renowned for it’s big bucks.The area we hunt is in the heart of the Peace country, it has many large farms that grow grain and alfalfa. The combination of aspen forests and farmland provides prime habitat for trophy bucks.
The best time to hunt for big bucks is during the last 3 weeks of November when they are rutting. The dominant bucks put on many miles in search of hot does. Our guides will put you in the best possible location to take a trophy Alberta buck. We scout for 2 months before our hunters arrive looking for specific trophy whitetail deer, patterning them.
Our zone is over 3500 square miles and has very low hunting pressure and high populations of whitetail deer. Big Alberta bucks in our area have antlers with lots of mass and score 150 to 190 b+c.
Wild Kakwa Outfitters base camp has many modern luxuries located in the heart of our hunting area on a beautiful creek. We provide thermostat controlled heated cabins, electricity and a hot indoor shower. This camp is accessible by vehicle and has satellite tv. Enjoy delicious home cooked meals and fresh sweets from our Camp cook and Baker.
Our spike camps are set up in remote areas that we can’t reach from our base camp. The spike camps consists of smaller movable cabins and wall tents with generator power and wood heat. Some of these camps are accessible only by ATV and River boat.
