Hunt trophy brown bears and moose in Alaska's Wood-Tikchik State Park with master guide Brian Donovan of Nushagak Guides. Brian has a reputation for quality trophy bears and a proven record of high success rates.

Nushagak Guides offers spring brown bear hunts, summer fishing at our private lodge, and fall brown bear and moose hunts.

Wood-Tikchik State Park, located north of Dillingham, AK, is the largest and most remote state park in the nation. The park features robust brown bear and moose populations, and the largest King Salmon run in the world.

We maintain a very high success rate through hard work, pride in our trophies, and ethical practices. I am personally involved in all aspects of the hunt, with your satisfaction as my primary goal.

Alaska Spring Brown Bear Hunts

Our spring Alaskan brown bear hunting season starts on April 1st and ends on May 25th. This makes for favorable weather conditions (20-30 degrees).

We operate spring brown bear hunts out of our cozy remote cabin on Lake Aleknagik in Wood-Tikchik State Park in southwestern Alaska. Home-cooked meals, hot water, and a family atmosphere out in the real Alaska bush.

Spring weather conditions can vary in Southwest Alaska and hunting methods can vary. If there is enough snow, we prefer to hunt with snowmobiles. If not, we use other means such as boats and fly-in spike camps to ensure the best chance for success.

This is a great hunt for a chance at a huge Alaskan brown bear. Prime times fill up fast.

For a less physically demanding hunt, please see our Fall Brown Bear Hunt.

Alaska Fall Brown Bear Hunts

Our fall Alaskan brown bear hunting season starts August 10th and ends September 30th.

Our fall brown bear hunts are operated out of remote tent camps in Wood-Tikchik State Park, north of Dillingham, AK. Most of the hunting will be done out of boats, on lakes, and on the Nushagak River. This makes the fall brown bear hunt a less physically taxing experience.

You will be in real Alaskan wilderness. The salmon will be running in the streams while we are out on the water, and the moose are in rut this time of year. It's an amazing time of year to be in Alaska.

In the fall the bears are gorging themselves to prepare for hibernation and are very large with great hides. The average fall bear is 8′ to 9’6″. Our fall hunt is a great opportunity to get a really nice trophy Alaskan brown bear.

Alaskan-Yukon Moose Hunts

The non-resident moose season is open from the 5th to the 15th of September; it is an 11-day hunt. Primary hunting techniques are spot and stalk, calling, and raking the brush in the swamps and marshes.

Our moose hunts are operated out of remote tent camps in Wood-Tikchik State Park, north of Dillingham, AK. Most of the hunting will be done out of boats on lakes and the Nushagak River in the real Alaskan wilderness.

We provide both guided and unguided camps for moose hunting.

In order to do an unguided moose hunt, you need a minimum of 3 hunters in your group. All hunters must have a GPS and an external frame pack.

Nushagak Guides provides full camps including tents, cots, pads, cook stove, cooking utensils, lanterns, game bags, food, boat, fuel, and bush flights in and out of the field (hunters and game).

You may also want to purchase a wolf tag (free). The hunter is also responsible for shipping the game back to the States. This usually runs about $500.00 per animal.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game requires nonresidents to view the Moose Hunter Orientation videos on field judging and butchering. These are available on the ADF&G website.
